Ophthalmologist West Plains | Dr Robert W Jones | Rolla

Robert W. Jones, MD is originally from Casper, Wyoming. He received his Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and his M.D. from Washington University’s prestigious medical school in St. Louis, Missouri. This training was followed by both a year long internship at St John’s Mercy Hospital and the completion of a respected three-year residency program at Washington University/Barnes Hospital, known for its strong clinical applications applied to diagnostic and surgical concerns.

Dr. Jones subsequent move to West Plains, MO in 1990 has allowed him to provide world-class care in all the areas of Ophthalmology with the exception of the most complicated retinal procedures. His expertise has given him the opportunity to be the first in central Missouri to perform many of the newest procedures for vision correction. These procedures include the Glaucoma Wick (also known as a non penetrating deep sclerectomy), which is a less invasive cure for glaucoma than was previously available; the much awaited Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), an implant which will largely replace traditional Lasik procedures with better vision and reversible options; multifocal implants to provide greater independence from glasses for both near and far vision; as well as the newest water powered cataract removal (AQUALASE) which is the least traumatic technique for cataract surgery.

Dr. Jones always prides himself in staying current with continuing education, therefore he also feels it is important to employ two to three graduates from Brigham Young University each year to teach them the skills of clinical and surgical techniques while they are awaiting acceptance into medical school. He also will allow a senior high student from our local high school to do job shadowing in the office.

Dr. Jones is member of the following:
